Display the Time Around the World in Your Status Bar

SUMMARY: FoxClocks lets you display the local time for multiple cities in Firefox's status bar, allowing you to customize various display options and even show country flags.

Ever needed to know what time it was halfway across the world before you called someone, tried to instant message them, or expected a response to an e-mail? Sure, you could visit a website to display the time in different time zones, but that means navigating away from the current site or opening up another tab.

With FoxClocks you can have the information you need directly on Mozilla Firefox's status bar. Choose which time zones you want to display, change the display formats, place country flags next to the times, and more.

1. Visit the following page from within Firefox:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1117

2. Click the "Add to Firefox" button.

3. The "Software Installation" dialog box will eventually appear. Click "Install Now" as soon as the button is enabled.

Installing the FoxClocks add-on

4. Once the add-on has installed, click the "Restart Firefox" button. Depending on your configuration, Firefox may note that it will try to restart your windows and tabs.

5. Once Firefox has restarted, a FoxClocks dialog appears where you can choose whether or not to visit the FoxClocks home page and/or enable automatic updates. Make your choices, then press "OK" to continue.

6. To change time zones displayed in the status bar, just double-click a city / country / time zone to display the "FoxClocks" dialog box. Click on time zones then the "Add" button to add them to the "Watchlist", or use the "Search" feature to find your desired city / country / time zone. Since all cities are not represented, you can click a matching time zone then the "Add as" button, and you can enter your desired location's name.

Double-clicking a time zone provides more options such as editing the displayed flag, status bar clock style, and status bar clock color.

Click on a city / country / time zone in the "Watchlist" and then the "Remove" button to remove it. Entries can be rearranged by clicking a name and then the "Move Up" or "Move Down" buttons.

Other options in this dialog box include exporting and importing settings and opening a location in Google Earth.

When done, close the dialog box to save your settings.

7. If desired, right-click the status bar clocks and choose "Options" to open the "FoxClocks Options" dialog box, or select "Tools" - "Options" when editing the time zones that are to be displayed on the status bar. A variety of settings can be changed including changing the time display format, the position on the status bar where clocks are displayed, and whether to display multiple clocks or a single FoxClocks icon you can hover over to display the clocks.
