Minimize Firefox Windows to the System Tray
SUMMARY: The "MinimizeToTray revived" extension places minimized Firefox windows in the System Tray area of the Taskbar.
Do you frequently have many windows open in Mozilla Firefox and tire of them taking up room in the Taskbar? How about minimizing icons to the System Tray instead?
The "MinimizeToTray revived" extensions does this, allowing each minimized Firefox window to be represented by an icon. It currently (at the time this tip was written) runs on Windows 2000, XP, and up, as well as Linux / Gnome.
1. Visit the following page from within Firefox:
* "MinimizeToTray revived" Extension for Firefox
2. Click the "Add to Firefox" button.
3. The "Software Installation" dialog box will eventually appear. Click "Install Now" as soon as the button is enabled.
4. Once the add-on has installed, click the "Restart Firefox" button. Depending on your configuration, Firefox may note that it will try to restart your windows and tabs.
Once Firefox has restarted, minimize the window and it should appear in the System Tray area of the Taskbar. You can also minimize Firefox by pressing F9 or selecting "File" - "Minimize to tray". If you want to customize the Toolbar you can also add a new button that performs the minimizing.
To configure this extension, select "Tools" - "Add-ons", and then click the "Options" button underneath "MinimizeToTray revived". Options include minimizing icons to the tray instead of closing Firefox, hiding the right mouse-click context menu, or only minimizing manually.
