Keep Tabs From Closing
SUMMARY: The "PermaTabs Mod" extension for Firefox can help keep important tabs to services such as Twitter and Gmail from accidentally being closed.
While browsing the web in Mozilla Firefox, do you often keep tabs open for sites and services such as Twitter and Gmail? If so, you may find it irritating when you accidentally close these tabs by clicking the wrong "X" button, clicking the "Close Other Tabs" menu item, etc.
With the "Permatabs Mod" add-on you can designate certain tabs as permanent so they should never close. These tabs will be marked in a different color, will not display an "X", and even the context menu will be modified so that right-clicking such a tab will show "Close tab" grayed out.
1. Visit the following page from within Firefox:
* "PermaTabs Mod" Extension for Firefox
2. Click the "Add to Firefox" button.
3. The "Software Installation" dialog box will eventually appear. Click "Install Now" as soon as the button is enabled.
4. Once the add-on has installed, click the "Restart Firefox" button. Depending on your configuration, Firefox may note that it will try to restart your windows and tabs.
Once Firefox restarts, you should notice a couple of tabs open up with different colors - these cannot be closed until you disable their permanence. Just click on a tab and press Ctrl + P to toggle its permanent state.
Several options can be configured; select "Tools" - "Add-ons", and then click the "Options" button underneath "PermaTabs Mod". These include prompting before removing a PermaTab, loading PermaTab pages on startup, altering the PermaTab color, and changing keyboard shortcuts. Note that some changes may require restarting Firefox.
