Mozilla Firefox - Plugins and Extensions

Restart Firefox via the Menu or Keyboard Shortcut

SUMMARY: The "Restartless Restart" extension for Firefox provides a menu item and keyboard shortcut you can use to shut down and relaunch the browser.

There are various reasons you may need to restart Mozilla Firefox, such as if you open a lot of tabs or use complex web applications and find the web browser running slower and/or leaking memory.

While various extensions exist to restart Firefox, the "Restartless Restart" extension has a couple of nice features. After installation, it is ready for use immediately without restarting Firefox. And, the extension adds a "Restart" option to the menu and a keyboard shortcut - Ctrl + Alt + R (this may differ on non-Windows platforms).

1. Visit the "Restartless Restart extension" page.

2. Click the "Add to Firefox" button.

3. Firefox may warn that it has prevented the site from installing software on your computer. If so, click the "Allow" button.

4. A "Software Installation" dialog box will appear. Click the "Install Now" button.

5. Firefox will then prompt you that the extension has been installed and is ready for use. Either select the "Restart" option from the "File" menu or press the aforementioned keyboard shortcut.
