Mozilla Firefox - Plugins and Extensions

Scroll Conan O'Brien and Other RSS Updates Below Firefox Status Bar

SUMMARY: Display a scrolling news ticker of RSS feeds, including Twitter feeds, at the bottom of Firefox via the "RSS Ticker" extension.

For Windows users, FeedRoller is a RSS news ticker that displays scrolling news updates at the top of your screen.

If you would rather add this feature to your web browser instead of your Desktop, the "RSS Ticker" extension for Mozilla Firefox displays scrolling news items either below the Status or Bookmark bars. Items are taken from your Live Bookmarks feeds, allowing you to use the same RSS feeds for this extension and other Firefox-based RSS readers you have installed. If you are not subscribed to any feeds (and if not, please subscribe to the MalekTips RSS feed), the extension options allow you to subscribe to various feeds including the Conan O'Brien Twitter feed.

Displaying scrolling news items in Firefox via the RSS Ticker extension

1. Visit the following page from within Firefox:

4. Once the add-on has installed, click the "Restart Firefox" button. Depending on your configuration, Firefox may note that it will try to restart your windows and tabs.

5. When Firefox restarts you should see the scrolling news feed above the Status Bar. If you do not have any subscribed Live Bookmarks you should see the following information, allowing you to subscribe to a default RSS feed:

To customize "RSS Ticker", select "Tools" - "Add-ons", and then click the "Options" button underneath "RSS Ticker".

Options include moving the ticker, limiting the number of items displayed per feed, and choosing to not display certain of your subscribed Live Bookmarks in the ticker. Depending on your reading and computer speeds you may choose to speed up or slow down the ticker as well as modify its choppiness (a smoother display requires more CPU usage).

By clicking the "Featured Feeds" button, you can also decide to subscribe to several provided feeds including the Trending News feed as mentioned above. Also available is the RSS feed to Conan O'Brien's Twitter updates for info on the red-haired traveling late night talk show host.

Subscribing to Conan O'Brien's Twitter Updates via the "RSS Ticker" extension
