Add a Scientific Calculator Directly on the Status Bar
SUMMARY: Perform scientific calculations directly inside the Firefox Status Bar. Define your own constants, functions, and operators.
Often need to perform a couple of quick calculations while browsing the web in Mozilla Firefox? If you don't want to keep opening the operating system's calculator or other tool, or if you often browse the web in full-screen mode, one option is to add a calculator directly onto the status bar.
The "Status-bar Scientific Calculator" extension adds a calculator icon and entry field where you can perform basic calculations, convert numbers between binary, decimal, hexadecimal, and other bases, access created and user-defined equations, and use variables including "e", "pi", "k", and those you can define.
1. Visit the following page from within Firefox:
* Status-bar Scientific Calculator Extension for Firefox
2. Click the "Add to Firefox" button.
3. The "Software Installation" dialog box will eventually appear. Click "Install Now" as soon as the button is enabled.
4. Once the add-on has installed, click the "Restart Firefox" button. Depending on your configuration, Firefox may note that it will try to restart your windows and tabs.
5. Once Firefox has restarted, you may need to click the calculator icon once to view the text area where you can enter calculations.
Right-clicking the calculator allows you to change the number base, switch between radians or degrees, or select the "Options" link.
The "Statusbar Scientific Calculator" dialog box lets you perform a wide variety of tweaking including:
* Adjust the size of the input box in the Status Bar
* Change the number of history list items (press the Up Arrow from the input box to access history)
* Create or edit constants
* View, create, or edit functions
* View, create, or edit operators
(Advanced customizations may require knowledge of JavaScript.)
More information about these advanced options can be found at the following page:
