Move Your Tabs to the Left in an Expandable Tree

SUMMARY: Place related tabs in an expandable tree while browsing the web in Firefox with the Tree Style Tab extension.

Looking for a different way to browse and organize your tabs in Mozilla Firefox? One option is to move the tabs to the left side of the browser window, which the "Tree Style Tab" add-on can do plus more.

"Tree Style Tab" places tabs to the left of the site you are currently browsing, with tabs opened by a site placed beneath the main tab and indented. This way, related tabs are automatically grouped together. You can also move the tabs to the right side of the window, change the appearance and icons, auto-hide the tabs, and more.

Viewing tabs to the left of the Firefox window with related tabs grouped together via the "Tree Style Tab" add-on

1. Visit the following page from within Firefox:

* Tree Style Tab

2. Click the "Add to Firefox" button.

3. The "Software Installation" dialog box will eventually appear. Click "Install Now" as soon as the button is enabled.

Installing the Tree Style Tab add-on

4. Once the add-on has installed, click the "Restart Firefox" button. Depending on your configuration, Firefox may note that it will try to restart your windows and tabs.

5. Once Firefox restarts, the tabs will move to the left side of the window, with tabs opened by web sites grouped together.

From the Firefox "Add-ons" dialog box ("Tools" - "Add-ons") click the "Options" button underneath "Tree Style Tab". From here you can modify options such as the tab bar location, appearance, tree twisties icon, context menu items, various new tab behaviors, tab bar auto-hide and transparency, and tree behavior.
