Mozilla Firefox - Misc

Ask Where to Save Downloaded Files

SUMMARY: Stop saving all files downloaded by Mozilla Firefox to the desktop.

This tip was written for Mozilla Firefox v2.0.0.7. Screenshots and instructions for other versions may vary.

Depending on your Mozilla Firefox configuration, when you download files from the Internet, all files may be automatically saved to your Desktop or another frequently-used folder for easy access.

However, you might rather have Firefox ask you where to save downloaded files each time so that you can place music in one folder, programs in another, photos in yet another folder, etc.

1. Select "Tools" - "Options".

2. When the "Options" dialog box appears, select "Main".

3. Underneath "Downloads", click the "Always ask me where to save files" radio button.

Force Firefox to prompt whenever files are about to be downloaded

4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
