Mozilla Firefox - Security and Privacy - Disable JavaScript Status Bar, Window, and other Tricks

SUMMARY: Keep webpages from performing potentially annoying JavaScript tricks when using Mozilla Firefox.

While JavaScript is beneficial for adding interactivity, webpage special effects, form validation, and other features to webpages browsed in Mozilla Firefox, you may find some websites that use JavaScript performing potentially-annoying tasks. These may include animating your status bar text, changing the size of browser windows, or raising and lowering windows.

If you'd like to keep JavaScript enabled but prevent it from performing some of these 'features', try this tip:

1. Click "Tools" - "Options".

2. When the "Options" dialog box appears, click "Content".

3. Check "Enable JavaScript" if it is not already checked, and then click the "Advanced" button.

4. The "Advanced JavaScript Settings" dialog box appears. From here, you can enable or disable "features" as desired:

* Move or resize existing windows
* Raise or lower windows
* Disable or replace context menus
* Hide the status bar
* Change status bar text

5. When done, click "OK" on the dialog boxes to close them.
