SUMMARY: Disable smooth scrolling in Mozilla Firefox to more quickly browse web pages on slower machines.
Normally, when you click on the scroll bar to jump between sections of a webpage, Mozilla Firefox performs what is called "Smooth Scrolling". This causes the webpage to smoothly scroll up or down and stop at the selected portion of the webpage you wish to see.
While this may look nice graphically, smooth scrolling may cause problems with slower computers, causing them to lag as they constantly re-render a page. If you are browsing the web with Mozilla Firefox on an older machine, or if you'd rather just have Firefox immediately jump to your selection section of a webpage, turn off "Smooth Scrolling":
1. Click "Tools" - "Options".
2. When the "Options" dialog box appears, select "Advanced".
3. Click the "General" tab.
4. Uncheck "Use smooth scrolling".
5. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
