Mozilla Firefox - Misc

Modify the Web Page Cache Size

SUMMARY: Privacy concerns? Running out of hard drive space? Expand or decrease the size of your Mozilla Firefox cache.

Mozilla Firefox stores on your machine a cache, or backup copy, of web pages that you visit. This way, if you frequently visit the same web pages, Mozilla Firefox can check to see if the pages have changed since the cached copy was made. If not, then instead of reloading the page from the web, your cached copy quickly appears.

You may want to change the amount of hard drive room Mozilla Firefox uses to store its cache:

1) If you run out of hard drive space, you should reduce this cache until you can free up room elsewhere.

2) Likewise, if you have plenty of hard drive space, consider increasing the cache size to theoretically make web page surfing faster.

3) If you are concerned about privacy, consider reducing the cache size to decrease the amount of information stored on your hard drive that concerns your website travels.

To change the amount of hard drive space Mozilla Firefox uses for its cache:

1. Click "Tools" - "Options".

2. When the "Options" dialog box appears, click "Privacy".

3. Click the "Cache" tab.

4. Next to "Use up to", enter the amount of hard drive space, in MB, that you want Mozilla Firefox to use for its cache.

5. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
