SUMMARY: Prevent Mozilla Firefox from alerting whenever updates are available.
Mozilla Firefox is normally configured to automatically check for software updates, both for the main browser and for any extensions you may have installed. This way, if any bug fixes are released or if any new features are added to extensions, you should be notified.
While many people like this feature, for privacy or other reasons some people may not want to repeatedly query the Mozilla Foundation to determine whether or not updates are available. Thus, to turn this feature off:
1. Click "Tools", selecting "Options".
2. When the "Options" dialog box appears, click "Advanced".
3. Click the "Update" tab.
4. Underneath "Automatically check for updates to", uncheck "Firefox", "Installed Extensions and Themes", and/or "Search Engines", as desired.
5. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
If you disable updates, be sure to periodically visit the Mozilla webpage at http://www.mozilla.org/. Due to potential security vulnerabilities being found and patched, you should keep Firefox up-to-date.
Press the "print" button on your browser or select "File" - "Print" to print this tip. Then, return to Mozilla Firefox - Misc - Disable Automatic Update Notifications
