| View Pages Rendered in Firefox and Internet Explorer SUMMARY: Use the "IE Tab" extension to test how your webpages will look in Internet Explorer. Are you a website designer and tired of switching between Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox to see how webpages look in the different browsers? Wouldn't it be convenient if you could view your websites inside one browser, yet have different tabs show how the same page renders differently, one in Firefox and one in Internet Explorer?
The Netscape 8 web browser supports multiple rendering engines in one application. Or you can download a free extension called "IE Tab" that does the same thing for Mozilla Firefox.
(Note that most extensions are from third party developers. Installation and use of extensions are solely at your own risk.)
1. Select "Tools" - "Extensions".
2. When the "Extensions" dialog box appears, click "Get More Extensions".
3. Type "ie tab explorer" in the search box and click "Go".
4. The "IE Tab" page should appear. Click the "Install Now" link.
5. When the "Software Installation" dialog box appears, click "Install Now" as soon as the button is enabled.
6. Restart Mozilla Firefox.
Now, when you open a webpage, if you want to switch its rendering engine from Mozilla Firefox to Internet Explorer or vice-versa, right-click on the tab in question and select "Switch Rendering Engine".
You can also directly open Internet Explorer to view a tabbed website in a new window. Right-click the tab and choose "Open in External Application".
There are many other options available including those that allow you to run Microsoft Update from within Firefox and automatically force such pages to appear rendered in IE. Right-click a tab then right-click "Switch Rendering Engine" for these options.
