Do you have any problems recording sounds with your computer? Check the following.

What kind of sound card do you have, and is it one recommend for recording sounds?

Have you tried another microphone or the microphone you are using on another machine?

Could something be causing interference to the microphone/sound card? If you know how to work on your computer's internals, is there any way you can move the internal sound card away from other cards in your computer?

Is the microphone plugged in correctly?

Are you using a high-enough recording range for sampling?
