| Useful Hayes Commands Even though most communication software packages automatically handle dialing systems, hanging up the phone, answering calls, etc., there may be times where you need to bypass such features. Most (all nowadays??) modems come built in supporting what is called the Hayes command set. These modems automatically recognize this set of commands, allowing you to perform certain features without relying on software control. If you can directly communicate to the modem, you should be able to access these commands.
Here is a VERY SMALL SAMPLE of some Hayes commands you might find useful:
(wait three seconds)+++(wait three seconds)
Tells the modem that you wish to start communicating in the Hayes command language. The modem should respond with OK.
ATDTxxx[enter]
Tone dial the number, replacing xxx with the number that you want to dial. Insert a comma in the number for a delay.
ATPTxxx[enter]
Pulse dial the number, replacing xxx with the number that you want to dial. Insert a comma in the number for a delay.
ATH[enter]
Hang up the phone.
ATL0M0[enter]
Useful for forcing the modem to 'quiet down' by turning off the speaker.
ATZ[enter]
Forcing the modem to re-initialize.
