General Computers - For Speed, CPU Speed Isn't It

When planning on upgrading your PC, you may think that upgrading your CPU speed is the only way to speed up your computer. Wrong! There are several ways to speed up your computer. Here are just two suggestions.

1. Adding more RAM to your computer may speed it up. Depending on the operating system that you use, upgrading from 4 or 8 megabytes to 16 megs may cause a substantial performance increase. 32 or 64 megs may make things even better.

2. For PCs, switching from IDE hard drives to SCSI may give you a considerable increase in speed. One of the bottlenecks in computer speed is the communications speed to and from your hard drives. SCSI reduces this bottleneck considerably.
