| Going on Vacation? Let People Know! SUMMARY: Gmail contains a Vacation response feature where you can let others know why you won't be responding to their e-mail for awhile. Frequently converse with people via Gmail and would like to let them know you'll be away for awhile? You can automatically send people a vacation response to let them know that you won't be responding for a few days.
(Note that this tip was written February 21, and Gmail's interface is subject to change.)
1. Sign onto Gmail.
2. Click "Settings" on the top-right of the Gmail webpage.
3. When the "Mail Settings" page appears, click "General".
4. Next to "Vacation responder", click the "Vacation responder on" radio button.
5. Type in the subject and message of your response, such as:
Subject:
Personal Leave March 1st - March 10th
Message:
Hello,
I'm taking my personal leave from March 1st through March 10th. During this time I will not have access to my Gmail account. I will be happy to respond to your message when I return.
Best Regards,
YOUR NAME HERE
6. If you wish, only send responses to people you presumably know - those in your Contacts list. To do so, check "Only send a response to people in my Contacts".
7. Click "Save Changes" to save your settings.
A couple of notes, according to Google's help information:
1. Vacation responses will only be sent once every 4 days unless you change your response message.
2. If Google detects a message is SPAM or sent from a mailing list, those e-mails will not get a Vacation response.
