Google Gmail - Toggle Showing Mail Snippets or Subjects Only

This tip was written on August 15, 2006. Gmail's interface is subject to change.

Depending on your needs, when looking at e-mail messages in your Gmail inbox, you can either display just the subjects of messages or message subjects and snippets of the messages.

While only showing message subjects may provide a cleaner display in Gmail, showing mail snippets can help you decide whether or not you need to open a particular e-mail message immediately or if it can wait.

1. Sign onto Gmail.

2. Click "Settings" on the top-right of the Gmail webpage.

3. When the "Mail Settings" page appears, click "General".

4. Next to "Snippets" click the "Show snippets" or "No snippets" radio button as desired.

5. Click "Save Changes" when you are done.

Press the "print" button on your browser or select "File" - "Print" to print this tip. Then, return to Google Gmail - Toggle Showing Mail Snippets or Subjects Only
