Google Gmail

Remove Quick Contacts / Chat Area

SUMMARY: Disable Gmail's Quick Contacts / chat area from appearing on the left side of your screen.

If you have a supported web browser, underneath your mail folders, Google's Gmail service by default displays a "Quick Contacts" area allowing you to manage your contacts. Also, from here you can chat with users provided you and they are signed into the Google Chat service.

If you do not use Google Chat and wish to unclutter the page, scroll to the bottom of the page in your web browser and click the "standard without chat" link next to "Gmail view". Your Quick Contacts / chat area should disappear.
