See if Alternate Routes Have Less Traffic

SUMMARY: Google Maps can now show more detailed traffic information for some U.S. cities.

U.S. mobile users of the Google Maps tool have the option to use a "My Location" tool that displays the user's location on their map as a blue dot. This also sends Google information on how fast they are going.

One side effect of this data is that Google's traffic maps are now more detailed in some cities, displaying traffic information for many US highways and arterial roads and not just freeways. This can help in planning your travels in that you can see if alternate paths to where you need to go may save you time or just get you stuck in more traffic.

As usual, traffic in midtown Manhattan is jammed during the afternoon.

During lunchtime, what a surprise - traffic on Kingston Pike / Cumberland Avenue in Knoxville, TN is slow, though the Interstate seems fine. I wonder what it will be like on football game days...
