Here's another interesting use of the Google Maps tool. The website Placeopedia combines Google Maps with encyclopedia entries from Wikipedia. You can click on a country, city, university, or geographic phenomena and view the related information about the selected place. As of December 11, 2005, over 7,500 geographic areas are cross-referenced with encyclopedia entries.

This website is an interesting and interactive way to learn more about the geography of the world, proving to be quite educational.
