SUMMARY: Receive e-mail notifications when news articles appear with the subject of your choice.
Need to research an ongoing news story, a competitor, or a particular industry? With Google News, you can have links to news articles related to a subject of your choice automatically appear in your e-mail. This service is currently free.
(Note that this tip was written on 10/14/2004 - Google's interface is subject to change).
1. Access Google News at http://news.google.com/.
2. Click "News Alerts" on the left side of the page.
3. When the "Google Alerts" section appears, type in your desired news subject, person or company name, or industry subject next to "Search terms". The more specific the terms, the better, so you do not get overwhelmed with too many links.
4. Next to "How often", you can select to have news links delivered to your e-mail once a day, once a week, or as it happens. It is recommended to test your search query with "once a day" before you choose "as it happens" so you do not become inundated with e-mail.
5. Enter your e-mail address next to "Your email".
6. Click "Create Alert".
If you plan on researching several terms, you can also create a Google Account at https://www.google.com/alerts/signin to manage all of your Alerts.
