Ignore Words in News Query

SUMMARY: Create more useful Google News search queries.

While searching for news items using Google News at http://news.google.com/, you may find that typing in search queries does not limit the results to those you actually need to view. Perhaps you are searching for articles containing a person's name, and the first few articles barely mention that person's name but go into detail regarding someone else. If this occurs, you can create ignore words in your news query so that articles containing certain names, words, organizations, etc. are ignored.

To create an ignore word, just enter a minus sign (-) before the word to ignore in your Google News query.

At a risk of dating this tip, here are a couple of examples:

1) This should display news articles mentioning George Bush but not John Kerry:

"george bush" -kerry

2) Vice-versa:

"john kerry" -bush
