Refine Searches by Querying Only Headlines

SUMMARY: Search for news articles with Google News and only find stories with matching headlines.

This tip was written on September 7, 2006. The Google News interface is subject to change.

Normally when querying for news stories with Google News your results contain stories that contain your search text located anywhere in the articles. To further refine your searches, in hopes of finding more exact matches, you may wish to consider only looking for news stories that have headlines matching your search text.

1. From Google News, click "Advanced News Search".

2. When the "Advanced News Search" page appears, click the pull-down next to "Occurrences" and select "in the headline of the article".

3. Enter your search query next to "Find results".

4. Click "Google Search".
