Delete a Suspicious File When Your System Reboots

SUMMARY: Having trouble removing a file related to adware/spyware from your system? HijackThis may help.

Sometimes, neither HijackThis nor other programs can completely rid a suspicious file, such as one related to spyware or adware, from your machine. Running spyware may actively be using the file, preventing its removal. To deal with this tricky situation, HijackThis includes a tool that queues a file to be removed when Windows restarts.

1. Start HijackThis. If the "New users quickstart" screen appears, click "None of the above, just start the program".

2. Click the "Config" button.

3. When the "Configuration" screen appears, click "Delete a file on reboot".

4. Choose the file to remove and follow the on-screen prompts.
