Web Searching - Advanced Boolean

While most advanced web searchers know about the Boolean "and" operator and adding plus signs to words to narrow down the results, a lesser-known tag, available to AltaVista(c) users at http://www.altavista.digital.com is the NEAR tag. Using the NEAR tag, you can search for pages containing two words that are near each other, not just pages containing the two words anywhere on the page. Searches for 'cough medicine' and 'medicine for coughs' can be done, for example, with the search "cough near medicine."
