Microsoft Internet Explorer 8

Don't Label Command Buttons, or Label Them All!

SUMMARY: Internet Explorer 8 labels "selective" buttons in the Command Bar. Configure to display labels for all buttons or none of them instead.

By default, Internet Explorer 8's Command Bar has labels for "Selective" buttons. So while the Home, Feeds, Mail, and Print buttons are shown as icons, the buttons for "Page", "Safety", and "Tools" are shown with text.

Many users would benefit from having all buttons labeled. Conversely, expert users might rather only see Command Bar buttons with no labels. To make either change:

Default Internet Explorer 8 Command Bar, with "Selective" buttons labeled

1. Right-click on an empty area of the Command Bar.

2. When the pop-up menu appears, select "Customize".

3. From here, choose one of the following:

* Show All Text Labels
* Show Selective Text
* Show Only Icons (see the screenshot to the right)
