Microsoft Internet Explorer 8

Disable In-Page Web Slice Discovery

SUMMARY: Prevent Internet Explorer 8 from detecting web slices inside web pages and highlighting them with a rectangle.

By default, when you access a webpage containing a web slice in Internet Explorer 8 and hover your mouse pointer over the web slice, the area is highlighted by a rectangle. To the left of this rectangle you will find a web slice button; click it and you will be prompted whether or not you want to add the slice to your Favorites Bar.

While some people use Web Slices and find this automatic detection convenient, others do not want to use this new Internet Explorer 8 feature and would not like this notification. Thus it can be disabled:

1. Access the Internet Options dialog box. If the menu bar is visible, you can select "Tools" - "Internet Options". If the Command Bar is visible, click the "Tools" button and select "Internet Options". If neither are available, try typing Alt + T then O.
