Windows Internet Explorer 9
Change the Search Provider From Bing to Another Service
SUMMARY: Configure Internet Explorer 9 to use a different search service other than Bing.
When you type in a search query instead of an URL into Windows Internet Explorer 9's address bar, by default it accesses the Bing search engine to return your results. If you would rather use Google or another search engine / service, do the following:
1. Click on the gear icon at the top-right of Internet Explorer 9, selecting "Manage add-ons".
2. The "Manage Add-ons" dialog box appears. Underneath "Add-on Types", click "Search Providers".
3. In the right side of the dialog box you may see one or more search providers visible. If your desired search engine is installed (such as Google in the below screenshot), click on it, then click the "Set as default" button. You may optionally want to check "Prevent programs from suggesting changes to my default search provider" to help accidentally prevent it from getting changed.
3. Otherwise, click the "Find more search providers" link at the bottom of the dialog box.
4. The "Internet Explorer Gallery" should open in a new tab. Move the mouse pointer towards the left or right side of the window to scroll through a list of available providers. When you find a provider you like, click on it.
5. A provider detail page should appear. Click on "Click to install" to install it.
6. An "Add Search Provider" dialog appears. Check "Make this my default search provider" to make this the default provider, or leave this unchecked to install it for later use. Other check boxes will appear and may or may not be enabled - check or uncheck them as desired.
Now, when you perform a search the new provider will be used instead of Bing.
Return to the Windows Internet Explorer 9 page.
