Windows Internet Explorer 9
Start with a Blank Home Page
SUMMARY: Start Internet Explorer 9 without going to a webpage by using a blank home page. Also explains how this may not be possible and a potential workaround.
When you start Windows Internet Explorer 9, it may start with Bing or Google or Yahoo!, or another web page possibly not of your choosing. If you'd rather start the web browser with a blank page instead, try the following first:
1. Press Alt+T then O to access Internet Explorer's options. You may optionally use the Menu Bar, or click the gears ("Tools") icon, then choose "Internet options".
2. The "Internet Options" dialog box appears. Make sure the "General" tab is selected.
3. Underneath "Home page", click the "Use blank" button.
4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
Restart Internet Explorer 9 and you should be presented with a blank page. However...
THE "USE BLANK" BUTTON IS GRAYED OUT!
If your computer is managed by a system administrator, this button may not be clickable. Or, some security software may have disabled this feature - you will need to check the settings of such software. Or, in some cases your computer may be infected with spyware or other malware.
One way to try to fix this is to use an application called SpywareBlaster (free for personal & educational use). For more information, visit SpywareBlaster: Disable the Internet Explorer Home Page Settings Area and perform the opposite of the last step to uncheck the "Disable the IE Home Page settings area in the Internet Tools Control Panel".
THAT DOES NOT WORK OR THE HOME PAGE SETTING DOES NOT STICK!
Again, SpywareBlaster may help. Visit SpywareBlaster: View and Change Internet Explorer Default Pages.
STILL NO GO!
Again, if your computer is managed by a system administrator, you may not be able to easily if at all change this setting. It's also possible that some security software you have enabled is doing its job in preventing you from making changes.
However, in other cases your computer may be infected with spyware, so you may need to try other spyware and malware removal tips and applications to remove the infection before you can fix this setting.
Return to the Windows Internet Explorer 9 page.
