Internet Explorer 6 and Pictures - Can't Save Webpage Pictures as JPGs

SUMMARY: This tip will help solve the problem where Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 will not let you save webpage images as JPG files.

From within Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, if you right-click on an image and choose "Save Picture As", you should be able to save a copy of the desired picture on your computer. If the picture is a GIF, you should be able to resave the picture as a GIF. Likewise for a JPG or for other graphics formats. However, if you are only able to save pictures as BMP files, the following may help:

1) Clear your Internet Cache. From Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" then "Options". When the "Internet Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "General" tab. Click "Delete Files", then when the dialog appears, click "OK".

2) If this doesn't work, visit the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

3) If this still doesn't work, you may need to rename your saved file as a .JPG manually. Read Microsoft Knowledge Base Article:
