Internet Explorer 7 Misc - Disable Friendly Error Messages

SUMMARY: Internet Explorer 7 hides detailed error messages when browsing websites. If necessary or desired, these can be disabled.

When browsing web pages with Internet Explorer 7, you may run across web pages that fail to load due to some sort of error. These include server errors (5xx series) or a page not found error (404). However, instead of showing the web server's error message, Internet Explorer 7 will show a 'friendlier' error message instead.

This 'friendly' message may aid new users in providing suggestions about what caused the problem. Advanced users, though, may rather see exactly what the server is returning. Also, web administrators diagnosing problems may want the full technical information returned by their server.

To disable 'friendly' error messages:

1. From Internet Explorer 7, click the "Tools" button on the toolbar.

2. From the pop-down menu, select "Internet Options".

3. When the multi-tabbed "Internet Options" dialog box appears, click the "Advanced" tab.

4. Underneath "Settings", scroll down to the "Browsing" section and uncheck "Show friendly HTTP error messages".

5. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
