Microsoft Internet Explorer 7

Increase Accessibility by Ignoring a Website's Design

SUMMARY: Having trouble browsing webpages in Internet Explorer 7 because you cannot read the text? Accessibility options may help.

Having trouble webpage text with Internet Explorer 7? Although you can increase the size of webpage fonts, there may be times when even this isn't enough.

* Perhaps an odd font was used in the design, making the webpage illegible.

* Perhaps the text color is too close to the page's background color, making words hard to read.

Internet Explorer 7 comes with accessibility options that can override settings made in most webpages.

Screenshot of Internet Explorer 7's Accessibility Options

1. Click the "Tools" button, selecting "Options".

2. When the "Internet Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, make sure the "General" tab is selected.

3. Near the bottom of the dialog box click the "Accessibility" button.

4. An "Accessibility" dialog box will appear allowing you to make the following changes:

* Ignore colors specified on webpages
* Ignore font styles specified on webpages (italics, bold, etc)
* Ignore font sizes specified on webpages

Also, if you know how to create stylesheets (.CSS files), you can format all webpages with a stylesheet of your choosing and select "Format documents using my style sheet".

5. When done, click "OK" on the dialog boxes to close them.
