Translate Web Pages, Text, or Documents Between 51 Languages

SUMMARY: Translate web pages, blocks of text, and documents using the Google Translate tool.

You can use Google to translate text, web pages, and documents such as Microsoft Word documents between 51 languages including Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Irish, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, and Yiddish. The translations may not always be perfect, but often may be good enough to be understood.

1. Access Google Translate at:

http://translate.google.com/

2. If you want to translate text or a web page URL, enter it in the textbox. If you want to upload a document, click the "upload a document" link, then the "Browse" button, then navigate your computer to find the file you wish to upload.

3. Choose your source and destination languages in the pull-downs below. You can click the "swap" link to swap source and destination languages as needed.

4. Click the "Translate" button to perform the translation.

Your translation should then appear. Note that when translating a web page, Google Translate will remain as a frame above the page, allowing you to change translation languages and translate other web pages.

When translating text, if you know a more proper translation than the one Google Translate provides, near the bottom-right of the page you should see a "Contribute a better translation" link. Click it, type in the better translation, and then click the "Contribute" button.
