Restrict Searches to Schools, Colleges, and Scholarly Institutions

SUMMARY: Remove commercial websites from your Google search results.

It's very easy to filter commercial websites from your Google search results. If you need scholarly information for a report, speech, or presentation, just tack on "site:edu" at the end of your search to only look through educational websites and institutions such as schools and universities.

For example, to search for the author of "Animal Farm" and 1984, you may try the following search:

"George Orwell"

Or, limit your search to scholarly websites by performing this search:

"George Orwell" site:edu

Note that many institutions now have .com addresses, as .com is the presumed standard extension for websites. Thus, the latter search would filter them out. However, it will also filter out many commercial sites that may be trying to sell Orwell books, posters, bookmarks, or whatever, making the latter search possibly worthwhile for your needs.
