Toggle Browsing Drives and Folders with IrfanView via Right Click Context Menu

SUMMARY: Toggle whether or not a right-click context menu option should appear in Explorer for drives and folders to browse the contents via IrfanView Thumbnails.

Depending on your configuration, when you right-click a drive or folder in Explorer, you may be given the option to browse the contents in IrfanView. This opens up IrfanView Thumbnails, allowing you to display thumbnail previews of the drive/folder contents and double-click a thumbnail to open the image in the main IrfanView window.

If this option does not appear and you would like this convenience, or if this option appears and you wish to remove it as you already have too many right-click context menu items, do the following:

Browsing a folder with IrfanView Thumbnails

1. From IrfanView, choose "Options" - "Properties".

2. When the "Properties/Settings" dialog box appears, select "Extensions".

3. Underneath "Shell options", check or uncheck "Add 'Browse with IrfanView' for Drives and Folders to shell menu" as desired.

Toggling a "Browse with IrfanView" option for the drive/folder Explorer context menu

4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.

This tip was written for IrfanView 4.25 on a Windows XP system. Features, information, and screenshots for other versions and operating systems may differ.
