IrfanView 3 - Edit a Picture Viewed in IrfanView

After loading an image in IrfanView, you may decide you need to make a few adjustments to the photo beyond what is capable inside IrfanView. To perform these alterations you may have a graphics editor capable of more advanced tasks, such as Adobe PhotoShop or Corel PhotoPaint.

Instead of having to manually start one of these packages then reload the picture viewed in IrfanView, you can have the software send the picture directly to the graphics editor.

First, define the program you want to use to edit graphics files:

1. From IrfanView, choose "Options" - "Properties".

2. When the "Properties" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Misc. 2" tab.

3. Underneath "Set external viewer/editor", click the "Browse" button and find your graphics editor.

4. If for some reason you are using an old 16-bit graphics editor (one written for Windows 3.1), you may need to check the "Send short file name to external viewer/editor" box.

5. Click "OK" to close the "Properties" dialog box.

Now, to send a picture or photo to the defined graphics editor, just choose "File" - "Open with External Editor" or press SHIFT-E.

Press the "print" button on your browser or select "File" - "Print" to print this tip. Then, return to IrfanView 3 - Edit a Picture Viewed in IrfanView
