SUMMARY: Add an option to start IrfanView when you insert digital camera media into your Windows XP machine via a memory card reader.
When you insert a USB memory card from a digital camera, a USB hard drive, a USB flash drive, or other type of USB media, if Windows XP can detect that the device contains mostly images, it will display a dialog box with image-related software you can open to view the files. While some find this feature annoying, others like the convenience of instantly opening software to view their photos.
If desired, IrfanView can be added to this list of software.
1. From IrfanView, choose "Options" - "Properties" or press "P".
2. When the "Properties" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Extensions" tab.
3. Click the "Miscellaneous" button to the right of the file extensions.
4. An "Icon for the associations" dialog box will appear. Check "Add IrfanView as application for USB events (Scanner, digital camera etc.)"
5. Click "OK" on the dialog boxes to close them.
Press the "print" button on your browser or select "File" - "Print" to print this tip. Then, return to IrfanView - Open IrfanView to View Images From a Digital Camera in Windows XP
