McAfee AntiSpyware - Disable AutoProtect

SUMMARY: Keep McAfee AntiSpyware's AutoProtect from taking up valuable CPU time and draining your laptop's battery.

McAfee AntiSpyware comes built-in with a feature called Auto-Protect. This automatically scans your machine for known adware, spyware, and other suspicious activity. This helps prevent spyware or adware from ever being installed or running on your machine.

Unfortunately, AutoProtect can take up extra CPU cycles. If you're running a slower machine, a laptop on battery power (where greater CPU usage means faster battery drain), or if you need to have several other programs opened, you may wish to disable this feature.

1. From McAfee AntiSpyware, click "Change Settings".

2. When the settings dialog box appears, click the "Auto-Protect" tab.

3. Uncheck "Enable Auto-Protect".

4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
