McAfee AntiSpyware

Schedule a Spyware Scan

SUMMARY: Schedule automatic malware scans with McAfee AntiSpyware. Scan every day, whenever there is idle computing time, once a month, or choose other options.

By default, McAfee AntiSpyware will perform a spyware scan every Friday at 9 pm if your computer happens to be on. If you wish to perform an automatic scan more or less often, or at a different time, do the following:

1. From McAfee AntiSpyware, click the hyperlinked text next to "Next scheduled scan".

2. A "McAfee AntiSpyware Properties" dialog box will appear. You can select several options:

* Perform a scan daily, weekly, monthly, once. You can scan at system startup, at logon, or whenever the system is idle.

* Depending on the above selection, you can choose:

* How many days to wait between scans, and at what time to perform the scan
* Between how many weeks should scans be performed, and at what day(s) and time
* What day of the month to perform a scan
* What day and time to perform a "once" scan
* How long the system should be idle to perform a scan

3. Click the "Advanced" button, if applicable, for even more options.

4. If desired, you can create multiple schedules. This way, for example, you can perform spyware scans when the system has been idle for 2 hours, and on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month.

Click the "Show multiple schedules" checkbox. A new pull-down will appear at the top of the dialog box from which you can select the schedule to edit or remove. Click the "New" button to add a different schedule.

5. When you have made your selection, click "OK" to close the dialog box.
