Disable Video Acceleration if Experiencing Playback Problems

SUMMARY: If videos do not display correctly in Windows Media Player 11, reduce or disable video acceleration.

Some Windows Media Player 11 users may experience problems when playing video. Video playback might halt or crash the machine, or video playback might appear jerky even when viewing videos stored on a computer and not streamed over the Internet.

To solve some video playback problems you can try adjusting an accleration slider that may fix issues with certain graphics cards.

1. Press "Alt", "T", then "O" to access the options menu (if this does not work, switch to Media Player's Full Mode first by pressing Ctrl+1).

2. When the "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, select the "Performance" tab.

3. Underneath "Video acceleration" move the slider from the right to the middle or the left hand side. Moving the slider to the middle keeps some video acceleration features intact, and the left side disables all video acceleration. You may want to experiment.

4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
