SUMMARY: When you remove files from Windows Media Player 12's library, you will be prompted to also remove them from your computer.
When you remove files from Windows Media Player 12's library, the default setting is to show a dialog box allowing you to also remove the files from your computer. This radio button is selected, so if you click "OK" without actually reading the dialog box, the files are permanently removed.
There is a radio button to delete files from the library only, and you can select this each time the dialog box appears when removing a file. There also is a "Don't show this message again" checkbox that you can select to make your choice permanent. But what if you select the "Delete from library and my computer" radio button, make this option permanent, and later change your mind?
1. In "Library" view, click the "Organize" button, selecting "Options".
2. The "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears. Click the "Library" tab.
3. Underneath "Media Library Settings", uncheck "Delete files from computer when deleted from library".
4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
