Does your mouse pointer tend to move haphazardly across the screen? If so, a culprit for this mouse insensitivity may be as simple as your mouse pad. Most mice need a very flat surface to work correctly, and a mouse pad with dust or dirt may be enough to roll the mouse ball the wrong way or cause the optical sensor to misread your movements.
