Alter the amount of room Internet Explorer 7 can use to store Temporary Internet Files. October 11, 2008, at 1:29 P.M. EDT
Internet Explorer 7 uses some of the room on your hard drive for its cache, a storage of Temporary Internet Files. This speeds up webpage display if you frequent the same pages often, as images, multimedia, and the pages themselves can be reloaded from disk instead of online.
If Internet Explorer 7 is filling up your hard drive by caching too much information, if you're worried about privacy, or if you have a large hard drive with plenty of room to store more cached items, this cache size can be altered.... MORE >
Copy the name of a file or folder's path to the DOS command window, a Windows application, a text file, or other locations. October 10, 2008, at 2:23 P.M. EDT
There may be times where you need the complete path to a file or folder in your Windows Vista system. Perhaps you need to copy a file's path to insert into a batch file in a DOS command window. You might want to copy and paste a long file path into a Windows application so you don't have to find it again later. Or, you may want to run an application with a command-line switch and don't want to re-type the entire application's path.
Windows Vista has a somewhat secret trick that lets you copy a file or folder's path to the Clipboard.... MORE >

If you buy digital cameras at auction, be careful about feedback rating legitimacy. October 9, 2008, at 3:33 P.M. EDT
Planning on purchasing a digital camera via an auction site? Auctions provide great ways for sellers to get rid of older equipment, as well as for buyers to come away with great bargains. "One man's trash is another man's treasure", and a digital camera owner that just purchased a dSLR camera might part with their less-powerful dSLR or prosumer camera for a heavily reduced amount.
When browsing auction sites such as eBay, it's easy to get caught up with the idea of feedback ratings. While no one recommends purchasing items from sellers with many negative feedback ratings, high feedback ratings may not all be legitimate. You may want to familiarize yourself with information from the following sites that explain how feedback ratings can be manipulated:... MORE >

You may have heard your local weatherperson or meteorologist mention that a particular day is an "Air Quality Alert Day" and that certain sensitive groups should limit excess outdoor activity. What exactly does that mean?

View or clear a list of recently accessed files from the Windows Vista Start Menu. October 9, 2008, at 11:18 A.M. EDT
From the Windows Vista Taskbar, if you click the "Start" button and select "Recent Items", a list of files recently-opened in most Windows Vista applications appears. This way if you frequently access the same files you will not need to navigate Explorer to find them again.
What if you want to clear this list of items from the Start Menu? It's easy.... MORE >
Place borders around printed slides in PowerPoint 2003. October 8, 2008, at 7:06 P.M. EDT
Though you may not want to add a box, or frame, around your slides when viewing them onscreen, they may look better on paper with a border. This is especially true if you use the "Handouts" feature, printing 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, or 9 slides on each page.
Instead of temporarily drawing boxes around each frame before printout, then deleting the boxes afterwards when you want to view the presentation onscreen, Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 has a feature that lets you add borders that display only on the hard copy.... MORE >
Keep Flash animations from appearing in Internet Explorer. October 8, 2008, at 3:13 P.M. EDT
Flash animations are commonly used for games, user interfaces, and advertisements. As some complex or rogue Flash files can slow down a computer, SpywareBlaster provides an option to completely disable Flash content in Internet Explorer if these cause a problem for you. Also, this tweak will prevent websites displayed in Internet Explorer from trying to install the Flash Player on your computer.
1. From SpywareBlaster, click the "Tools" image.... MORE >
Internet Explorer underlines hyperlinks by default. Learn how to change this setting. October 8, 2008, at 1:00 P.M. EDT
Unless a website specifies otherwise, Internet Explorer 7 underlines hyperlinks. While many people find this helpful in differentiating plain from clickable text, others may rather either not underline hyperlinks, or underline hyperlinks only when the mouse hovers over them.
To change this setting:... MORE >
If the Display Properties "Appearance" and "Themes" tabs are missing, try this tip. October 8, 2008, at 11:20 A.M. EDT
In some instances, possibly due to a virus, certain spyware, or errors in the Registry, when you try to change Windows XP's Display Properties, the "Appearance" and "Themes" tabs may be missing. Without these tabs, it is much harder to modify display effects, color schemes, themes, styles, and default font sizes and colors.
To show these hidden tabs, you can either perform a registry tweak or modify the Group Policy. Note you must be an Administrator to perform either one.... MORE >
