January 30, 2007: Before Upgrading to Vista
Windows users: before you even consider upgrading to Windows Vista, use the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor. Make sure all of your hardware is supported (that includes the audio driver for those with integrated audio on their laptops), and see which software products are not yet supported on Windows Vista and must be uninstalled (this includes many firewall and anti-virus software packages).

Also take a look at CNET's Vista Readiness Advisor, which may give you a good idea whether or not you will need to upgrade your computer memory, graphics card, or more to take advantage of the new operating system.

Microsoft has extended their Windows XP Support. As many software programs do not yet have Windows Vista versions and some hardware devices may not be compatible, consider waiting to upgrade.
