Netscape - Communicator 4: Removing Items from Pulldown/History

Previous MalekTips tips tell you how to clear out your entire Netscape history. What they don't tell you, however, is how to remove individual history items and how to remove websites from the Location 'down-arrow' button. So, here goes€

To delete item(s) from the history list:

Open Netscape and press CONTROL-H to pull up the History window. Now, select history items that you wish removed and press the DELETE key. If you don't know how to select more than one item, see previous tips in MalekTips on list box selection techniques.

To delete item(s) from the pulldown:

Be very careful performing this technique. One mess-up and you *may* cause Netscape to stop running until you reinstall the software. You perform the following at your own risk.

Close all running copies of Netscape - this is very important! Then, locate your PREFS.JS file. It should be underneath your communicator4/users/default or communicator4/users/YOURUSERNAME folder. Make a backup copy of the file for safety sake. If you mess up editing this file, revert to this backup.

Now, edit the PREFS.JS file in Notepad. Find the URL which you want to delete and replace it with another URL, such as http://www.malektips.com :) Save the file, open Netscape, and hope for the best.
