View Web Page Source in Opera or External Program
SUMMARY: Display the HTML source of a web page viewed in Opera, optionally in Notepad or another external program.
It's easy to view the source HTML of a webpage viewed in Opera. Just click "View" - "Source" or press CTRL + U. By default, the webpage source will appear in a new tab.
However, what if you want to view the source code in the operating system's default editor (such as Notepad or Wordpad for Windows machines), or perhaps with a third-party text editor? Doing so requires a small tweak:
1. Click the "Tools" menu, selecting "Preferences". Or press Ctrl + F12.
2. When the "Preferences" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Advanced" tab.
3. On the left side of the "Preferences" dialog box, select "Programs".
4. On the right side of the dialog box, near "Choose application for viewing source", click the "Edit" button.
5. The "Source viewer" dialog box appears. There are several options including:
* Open with Opera (default)
* Open with a default application
Click this radio button and the default application opens (if on Windows, it is Notepad).
* Open with other application
From here, click the "Browse" button to choose an application to open for viewing the source code. Then underneath "Parameter" add any command line parameters necessary for viewing the source.
For example, on Windows machines to open web page source code in Wordpad, you need to browse and select the following file:
C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories\wordpad.exe
6. When done, click "OK" on the dialog boxes to close them.
Return to the Opera page.
