| Remove Web Page History for Privacy SUMMARY: Increase your privacy when browsing the web with Opera 8 - eliminate website history tracking. By default, Opera remembers the last 200 web addresses that you enter. This way, when you retype web addresses, if Opera sees you keying in an address and thinks it knows of a potential match, it will show it to you to potentially save you typing. Also, Opera keeps a separate history of the last 500 visited web addresses so that if you frequently visit the same sites, you can press CONTROL-ALT-H to quickly retrieve a recently-visited URL without typing.
While both of these histories may prove to be convenient, they can also violate your privacy, especially if others have access to your machine or if you are using a public computer (such as in an Internet cafe). Thus, to delete Opera 8.5's history:
1. Select "Tools" - "Preferences". 2. When the "Preferences" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Advanced" tab. 3. Click "History" on the left side of the dialog box. 4. Next to "Typed in addresses", click the pull-down, selecting "0". 5. Click the "Clear" button next to the pull-down. 6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 next to the "Visited addresses" label. 7. Click "OK" to save your settings.
