Opera 8 - Disable Web Page Sounds

SUMMARY: Prevent most webpages from playing music or sound effects in Opera 8.

Some webpages may play sound effects or even complete songs when you visit them. Then can happen when viewing certain banner ads, and on many personal homepages when automatically playing music was deemed to be the "in" thing to do many years ago.

However, many people find these sounds annoying, especially in office environments. Thus, you can force Opera 8 to disable webpages from playing *most* sounds. Note that sounds in Flash animations and other certain "embedded objects" may still be heard.

1. Select "Tools" - "Preferences".

2. When the "Preferences" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Advanced" tab.

3. Click "Content" on the left side of the dialog box.

4. Uncheck "Enable sound in Web pages".

5. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.

Or, if you'd rather use the "Quick Preferences" feature, just uncheck "Tools" - "Quick Preferences" - "Enable sound in Web pages" in the menu bar.
