Auto-Server Name Completion Not Working?

SUMMARY: This tweak can help fix automatic web server name completion if it fails to work.

Normally, if you enter part of a web address in the Opera 8 address bar, such as "google", "yahoo", or "malektips", Opera 8 will perform what is called server name completion. This causes Opera to automatically look for websites based on your entered server name, which in this example, would be "http://www.google.com", "http://www.yahoo.com", or "http://www.malektips.com", respectively.

If server name completion is not working for you, perhaps a configuration item was changed accidentally.

1. Select "Tools" - "Preferences".

2. When the "Preferences" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Advanced" tab.

3. Click "Network" in the left pane.

4. In the right pane, click the "Server name completion" button.

5. Unless you are on a company intranet or network, uncheck "Look for local network machine.

6. Check "Try name completion, using"

7. Make sure "www" (without quotes) is next to "Prefixes".

8. Make sure "com" (without quotes) is next to "Suffixes".

9 Click "OK" on the dialog boxes to close them.
